Pine Marten
New Forest Pine Marten Study

First recorded in the New Forest in the mid 90’s following an absence of over 100 years, the number of records picked up through the early 2000’s. By 2010 Pine Marten were being observed near annually. In 2016 we were fortunate to pick up Pine Marten on a trail camera placed as part of our Hawfinch fieldwork, this event kick started a fascination and passion for the species and their status in the New Forest.

Hawfinch
New Forest Hawfinch Study

The New Forest is one of the last UK strongholds for this declining species, but our surveys have revealed an apparently stable population of up to 350 pairs. Hawfinch has been a passion of Marcus’s for the past 15 years using a range of techniques to monitor the populations. From locating and monitoring communal roosts, to colour-ringing, GPS tracking, nest finding and monitoring and studying post breeding dispersal.
